Around 5000 people came together to run for themselves and for the pride of the city of Aurangabad in the Lokmat Aurangabad Marathon. The run organized by Maharashtra and Goa’s leading publishing house Lokmat on December 11, 2016, was flagged-off by Kavita Raut, National Long Distance Runner & Common Wealth, Asiad Champion and Amitesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Aurangabad.

The marathon made the Lokmat group bring together runners from varied age groups, social backgrounds and strata to cover different distances including 21 km for Half Marathon, 10 km for Power Run, 5 km for Fun Run and 3 km for Family Run, which passed through different heritage sites giving a glimpse of the city with rich cultural past and the present scientific developments to everyone taking part in the event.
The overwhelming response to the biggest run of the tourist capital of the Marathwada region was a proof of popularity for the No 1 daily in Maharashtra and Goa, The Lokmat Group that promoted the event through its publishing, broadcast, digital, entertainment, community and social entities. Not only the main event but even the Health Fitness Expo held a day before the main event was a huge success.
The huge footfall at the event was also the result of an extensive campaign for full four months by the media house that attracted people in such large numbers towards the run. The largest regional language newspaper that brings out 11 editions for 23.5 million readers and its Hindi edition read by over 1.3 million readers made an appeal to all its subscribers to help in building a better self and city.
Being one of the major events before the all-important Mumbai Marathon to be held in January 2017, the Lokmat Aurangabad Marathon proved to be a preparatory ground for the runners planning to be a part of that all important event.
